In August 2009 the first Philipp Lahm Summer Camp opened its doors to 80 children for a week of discovery.
The camp focused on physical exercise, nutrition and personality development, making it an all-round experience very different from a football training camp. The daily programme for the 80 children between the ages of 10 and 13 consisted of attractive activities based on the three focal areas, including regional excursions and a varied evening programme. Parents were also integrated in the events on the final Saturday.
Philipp Lahm’s youth development programme is a new and innovative approach to out-of-school youth work. The aim of the summer camp - which will be held again next year - is to encourage children’s personal development and increase their self-confidence, to promote social values within the community and raise interest in sports and school. Phases of guided reflection on their own behaviour strengthen the participants' ability to make confident decisions in future situations. The camp also gives the children the chance to make new friends and to discover new perspectives and life skills which will enable them to master difficult situations in their everyday lives.
